The
Nobel Peace prize is “the best “of all Nobel Prizes awarded and the last “Nobel
Prize” awarded by the Nobel foundation in a year .So far,
since 1901 to 2014 total 95 Nobel Peace
prize have been awarded to 103
individuals and 25 organizations thus total 128 prizes . It was not however awarded on 19 occasions also: in years 1914-1916, 1918, 1923, 1924, 1928, 1932,
1939-1943, 1948, 1955-1956, 1966-1967 and 1972. Nobel Peace prize is awarded to an individual or maximum two persons or organization for last 113 years with positive merit and credibility or
contribution of person/persons or organizations succeeded in
bringing peace in global and
international community or for mankind. In the Will of Alfred Bernhard Nobel executed at Paris, on 27 November, 1895
for the Peace Prize it is said “...and one part to the person who shall have done the most or the
best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of
standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses” and as
per his will the Nobel Peace Prize is
awarded by a committee of five persons of Norwegian Nobel Institute ,Oslo, who are chosen by the Norwegian Storting
(Parliament of Norway) from the nominees in a year .
But to me, how far this very “Nobel Peace prize” had brought Peace
and fraternity between nations, to global intellectuals and political community,
eliminating wars between nations, abolishing
or reducing army or deadly weapons in
nations ,eliminating hunger, poverty and establishing a world with peace and
harmony, wealth and prosperity? I think
it never succeeded in bringing
peace, rather many of times it was/it is fueled with controversy from various corners of globe. The Nobel peace prize
generated more heat than the light that a sense of peace invariably
summons up. As for example 2002 Nobel peace Prize for James Earl Jimmi Carter” [
Motivation was for his decades of
untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance
democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social
development"]; when peace prize went to Henry Kissinger( 1973)( however
his co winner Le Duc Tho declined to receive the prize) as a harbinger of peace in Vietnam (two
members left the Nobel Committee in protest of his prize) or to Barack Obama in 2009 or 2012 Nobel
peace prize to UN?(Motivation was- .for over six decades
contributed to the advancement of peace and reconciliation,
democracy and human rights in Europe")or 2010 Nobel peace prize when
awarded to Liu Xiaobo ( Motivation- for his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental
human rights in
China)also created a storm in china and
its supported countries. My humble questions to
five members selecting committee members “could all these Nobel peace
prizes and laureates brought back peace amongst the fighting nations and countries? Could reduce their standing army and budgets
for army or could eliminate hunger or could eliminate poverty ,inequality, or could
provide two full stomach meals daily before going to sleep ,could provide
education to all children at free of cost up to higher school level at least, in
science, art, commerce and technology in open market economy and bazaar
economy? Could they provide free health care& cure to all poor needy people
in their own countries? Could they provide
food permanent shelter to needy,
to pavement dwellers to street beggars
and destitute /refugee families and
fundamental demands of at last for children’s set up in UN in 1989
There is only one
answer to me “ NO”.
Rather to day the
cost of living in world, cost of purchasing calorie for a descent living , for
education in school and colleges, health
care &cure is increasing at so much height
and it is out of reach to middle class society for global privatization and
when there is minimum job opportunity, and
naturally human moral value decreasing
and terrorism increasing globally and behind this terrorism lies nothing but poverty and extreme poverty,
unemployment, unsecured life.Terrorists are created & supported by one country for another country.
Today to me
credibility of Nobel peace prize so comes in big questions and I do not know what the other people think about this prize. There is a growing
suspicion that while deciding on Nobel Prize comes in, specially for Peace
Prize the concerned members committee
yields to political corrections
and may even to political lobby and pressure.
This year 2014 ,the Norwegian Nobel Committee in
Oslo probably regards it also important point
for a Hindu( Mr.Kailash Satyarthi-of Vidisha MP , now living in
Delhi, India-who was mostly unknown to many Indians for his work on child
labour, before he won Nobel Peace Prize-2014) and a Pakistani 17 years old
girl(Malala Yousafzai- she was however nominated in 2013 and public craziness was behind her but was
not awarded in 2013). The motivation declared by the Norwegian Nobel Committee “for their struggle against the suppression of children
and young people and for the right of all children to education") for
their common struggle for children
education and child labour and child slavery( as it is
told in the press release for 2014 Nobel peace prize) maintaining Gandhi’s
tradition,
Or should I say that there remain a hyphen in between the declared words to enjoy
bringing the two ever fighting counties India and Pakistan who always fought
wars or shadow wars in boarder with each others and created a big market for selling arms weapons
from 1st world and even today
the two countries fighting in the borders killing common people & Soldiers.
Military tensions between India and Pakistan have flared up again this year with cross
boarder shelling in the dispute region of Kasmir and also terrorism( where is then fraternity between
this two nations and what works these laurels did for it or to stop terrorism?)
”. The committee however mentioned that Mr. Kailash Satyarthi maintained late Mr. M.K Gandhi( a missing NL-I
should say) tradition in his work when Mr. M.K Gandhi was never awarded Nobel Peace
Prize in spite of his several 12 nominations (1937,38,39
,three nominations in 1947 and six nominations in 1948) during his life times
and every time evaluation was “NO” with some reasons.So is in case of Gene Sharp of Albert Einstein Institution in spite of his four tines Nominations(2009,2012,2013,2014) 2012 Nomination was by this author himself
I also never understood why Malala Yousafzai a 17 years old, yet a high school student for girls in Birmingham, London exactly did for fraternity
between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the
holding and promotion of peace congresses or for global peace or international
peace besides showing her courage ,some kinds of lectures in UN for child
education( Malala Day) or had meeting with US President Barack Obama, the Queen
of England and published a book “ I am Malala” with Christina Lamb British Journalist who wrote
for her in the book her tells of courage against Taliban & love for her father . There are many more girls and boys in
rural/sub-urbane/ or slums India, in rural Pakistan
and in more worst conditions they are fighting for their education
in-spite of economic pressure, pressure from their own family to earn or to help
in paddy fields or in small scale industries and pressure from society itself. Their courage and determination remain always unnoticed and unrewarded and they never flew away from
their hostile environment like Malala from Pakistan to Birmingham London. Then
Why not the prize for them? How Miss Malala met the stringent criteria of A.
Nobel’s will? . Miss Malala Yousafzai
is now the youngest Nobel Laureate
and before her Australian born British scientist in physics
Lawrence Bragg in 1915. In fact what work she had done by this 17 years for
peace prize as per will of Alfred Nobel at International national or in Pakistan her own country on reality
besides her courage to face Taliban and Taliban shot her to almost death on way
to school and it sheltered her skull?. The Credit of her well being and return
back to her life from coma is surely credit of her Doctors and surgeons untiering effort in Birmingham
hospital, London and all mighty GOD ,not herself.Malala Yousafzai has hardly done any thing to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
There may be factors those make selection of Nobel peace Prize more difficult than in other fields in which
the prize is now awarded. One issue is
of course bringing peace and
harmony to the world. The issue often
impossible to arrive at a peer group
conclusions unless the candidate’s life is totally dedicated like those of Nelson
Mandela& Frederik
Willem de Klerk awarded in 1993( for their work for the peaceful termination of the
apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South
Africa"), Yasser Arafat& Yitzhak Rabin
1994(for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East) Aung San Suu Kyi in 1991(for her
non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights") and Mother Teresa in 1979(Leader of Missionaries of Charity,
Calcutta& humanitarian work amongst orphans) and second the prize goes
under political pressure, political lobby and craziness.
According me, the Prize to Mr.Kailash
Satyarthi is some what worthy and though however he utilized and high lighted some kinds of social challenges
not only in India but globally. The Press release of Nobel peace Prize
2014 says “It has been calculated that there are 168 million
child labourers around the world today. In 2000 the figure was 78 million
higher”. But the problem of Child trafficking &child labor is the problem of all poor and poorest countries. In the poor countries of the world,
60% of the present population is under 25 years of age . Hundreds of millions
of children young adults, adolescences,
in the world are deprived of
their childhood, food, permanent shelter,
a health, education, job & employment
and basic fundamental rights to
freedom. In poor and poorest countries million people goes to bed at night often with empty stomach and 72% population in India in 2014 live in poverty of capacity to
purchase calorie less then US $1 per day per capita. And the problem of child labor in focus is thus problem of poverty and unless the poverty is eliminated
by employment/job the child labor will persist
and leaders of the world must share my opinion that behind the veil of poverty is the child labor,child prostitution, AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malnutrition , Malaria, dengue, encephalitis,
meningitis Respiratory Tract infections and so far elimination of child labor requires government policy and laws implementation for compulsory free education from primary to
graduate level of universities in country rather promoting private & business
minded educational institutes ,providing job to earn to purchase calorie for
him/her survival and maintenance family structure so that he/she is not sent
for work by family, free quality health care at least to jobless people, people bellow poverty line ,
in poverty line and for low socioeconomic class . Most poor families send their
child( male or female) to work to earn
money to purchase basic needs of life in towns cities ,in tea stalls, in
domestic houses as servant or as maid or as baby keeper or in small scale
industries and this is obvious when their parents are not financially capable of feeding them
or giving them a good cloth in winter or send them in schools. At least they
would get two times meals what ever it is, some cloths ,a shelter to sleep and they would not in that situation die of
hunger, starvation & tuberculosis. Government of India brought acts and
laws to stop child labor in 2012 in Industrial sectors & in other hazardous fields and
compulsory education(RTE) acts up to class eight standard but did not guaranteed two full stomach meals every days, neither
gave guarantees for calories and providing basic needs to family members of the poor child. In empty
stomach question of education & culture is furze. In India around 50 miilion children still toll in factories & small scale industries. As a Doctor & Professor of
Pathology at a government tertiary care hospital in Kolkata
I know how many child ,young
adults ,adolescent, unemployed suffers
from Tuberculosis, Intestinal worm infestations suffers from malaria, dengue, meningitis
and HIV and who actually cares them? The activists? The NGOs or Government
hospital doctors-even at death bed?
So a question to my mind unavoidable for 2014 Nobel
peace prize-The prize is given to enjoy Hindu and Muslim-that organizers seem
to enjoy bringing the two fighting countries for ever together with a hyphen
and motive of this prize is some where else- Completely political one. It is not like other
Nobel prizes in science, literature or economics based on merit of work
